As a beginner blogger, starting your blog can be exciting, and with it comes a ton of useful tips to grow. It’s a way to express yourself by word. And the topics to talk about are endless. With a niche, an urge to write, and motivation, you’re well on your way.

So you’re a beginner blogger, and your journey has begun

Now that you’ve been blogging for over a month or so, you may feel instantly accomplished with each post you publish. And with each accomplishment, you’ll have a ton of ideas run through your head for what to do next.

It is an exciting time to be a beginner because you’re fresh to the process of blogging. You may start to get an idea of how much work goes into running your blog.

Like with everything, there will be challenging obstacles, such as growing your audience, providing constant content, and more. And as you continue to write, you’ll learn so many things that will help you pass those obstacles.

Still know that the title of beginner blogger won’t last forever because there’s tips you’ll learn along your way. It will all come in time from blog scheduling, social media position, and structuring your posts for better readership.

If there’s a piece of advice I would give to those starting is to use this time to blog the way you want. Get a feel for what it’s like to write for an extended period of time. And focus on blogging what you’d like, whether it’s about a hobby, sharing information, or more.

I’ve read many articles that have said it’s good to start with a niche. However, having a niche from the start may not be as easy to find. Like me, you may find your niche during the process. The time you spend writing on different topics within your niche will give you an idea of the direction you want to head with your blog.

Now you may not be ready for the big leagues yet. However, it’s always good to lay down a foundation for what’s to come. These may be simple tips but they can also be useful as you start to find your way from beginner blogger to experienced.

Tip # 1: Connect with your audience

A big part of the reason we blog is for our audience. While writing a blog post can serve as a release for you, it’s a connection for your audience. As you start to build your audience, having an interest in those that read your blog is essential. Even in your early stages, you should begin to build a relationship with your readers.

Respond to their comments on your site and social media. And when you’re ready, start offering ways to strengthen your relationship even more. You may want to set up a Facebook group or Discord to build a community alongside your blog. Or maybe offer free advice or information based on your niche. Also, having an email list is an excellent way to stay connected to your audience because you can send personal emails to your readers.

Tip #2: Expand the content on your blog

Sometimes a blog post just isn’t enough. As we all know, it takes a lot to keep the interest of others. There’s nothing wrong with thinking about more. As a blogger, your social media platforms extend your blog content. If you’re looking to grow, then providing simple, evergreen (content about the same topic) content on your social media can lead to new readers.

Tip #3: Be consistent with your content

I’m sure you’ve heard it everywhere that being consistent is key. Well, it’s true. The more you blog, the more known you start to become. Being consistent with your content allows others to connect to your work and you. Also, It will enable your existing audience the opportunity to continue their support. Even if you only post once a month, you can still stay relevant to your audience through your social media and guest postings for other sites. Whether it’s for a hobby or a career, staying up to date with your work will help you grow in the long run.

Tip #4: Network with other bloggers even outside your niche

No one is an island, and that goes for bloggers as well. Networking with other bloggers has a role in blogging. Many bloggers follow each other and build friendly relationships. Networking can lead to collaborations, guest posting, and more. Also, they can serve as support.

They’ve been where you are now, and they can help answer any questions you may have for the future. Try using your social media and Facebook groups to start networking with other bloggers, even if they’re not in your niche. It may not be on your list in the early stages of blogging, but it doesn’t hurt to consider it.

Tip #5: Expect to continually transform your blog and yourself

I have changed my blog at least seven times within my years of blogging. From changing themes to the way, I write my blog posts, I’ve seen how my blogging has advanced. And as a new blogger, you’ll see the same changes. The more you learn about the method of blogging, you’ll start to envision new ways to grow and see a change in yourself. This is a good thing because you’re starting to evolve as a blogger. So always expect improvements.

Tip #6: Know when to take a break

Blogging is hard work and can be time-consuming. As you’ll learn, more goes into running your blog than just the writing. So, when it comes a time, don’t be afraid to step away from your work. Non-stop work can add frustration and unwanted stress, and it can also take a toll on your mental wellbeing. It is essential to schedule time off, whether on the weekend or even a month out of the year. When stepping away for an extended period, be sure to let your audience know that, way they’re not left wondering what happened. It is vital to take care of yourself mentally when it comes to blogging.

My experience from beginner blogger to now

Blogging for me has been such a satisfying journey. Since I started over two years ago, I have seen the changes in my blog and me. In the beginning, my main focus was always on making sure I had a post ready for each week. I remember only posting about a new post maybe once or twice a week and nothing more on Twitter. And despite my lack of posting on Twitter and Instagram, I saw that others were starting to pay attention.

Soon, I was starting to notice other bloggers and how they handled how they worked. This sparked me to invest more into my writing and my site. I researched other bloggers, such as Female Blogpreneur and others. I even took an online freelance writing course by Elna Cain to further my writing style and open my mind to more.

The things that I’ve learned during this process have helped me grow in how I blog. Still, I remember the first day I decided to blog. It started as a journal before it turned into what it is today. I didn’t have a real plan or goal, just writing about everyday life. And now, my goal is focused on mental health and self-care.

It doesn’t just stop at blogging. I’ve expanded my content into other avenues. I’ve started to utilize my social media platforms more to advertise my posts and expand on extra information related to my site. And more recently, I started a new YouTube channel and an online mug shop pertaining to my mental health niche.

While I’m still on the smaller spectrum of bloggers, it hasn’t stopped me from consistently wanting to build on my blogging.

Conclusion

The journey of a beginner blogger is a long one but a fulfilling one. As you gain experience, you start to see the potential to grow your blog as a brand and open avenues to other opportunities. It is possible to make this a long-term career as long as you put in the work. And soon you’ll be supplying tips to another beginner blogger.

    1. Thank you so much, Emma :). And I completely agree. I’ve seen so much information out there that seems to change every few months. There’s always some new method or way to blog.

  1. I agree with all of your points. Since I started, I’ve enjoyed being able to learn from other bloggers. It’s helpful to see how people view and share their content, regardless of niche. I started with this small view of sharing my blog, and now, I’m having trouble keeping up with all the new ways I can see of expanding its reach.

    1. Thank you, Cassie :). Some advice that I can give you is to read up on the new ways that you see will work for you. I had to learn the hard way that while it’s great to have all this wonderful information at our fingertips, not all of it will work out for you. Best of luck in growing :).

    1. Thank you Jaya :). I can definitely agree. Interacting with other bloggers outside my niche was so helpful with my blogging.
