Dark Mode Off / On

Where there are gifts, there is the task of gift wrap. And for a lot of us, that’s one task that we struggle with, which is why we have gift-wrapping services nowadays. But the holidays are expensive enough. If you want to take matters into your own hands, I have a simple tutorial.

Ready to become a good gift wrapper? Then allow me to show you how I gift wrap my gifts.

Here’s what you need:

  • your favorite wrapping paper
  • tape
  • scissors
  • flat surface (floor, board, or table)
  • a bow or ribbon (optional)

Square/ Rectangle gifts

Step #1: Measure your wrapping paper

Take your wrapping paper out of its wrapping and start to roll it out on your flat surface. Place your gift on top of the wrapping paper. Next, pull the end of the wrapping paper to the center of your box. Do the same with the rolled-up part and pull it about an inch or two past the other end.

Step #2: Cut the wraping paper

Cut down the wrapping paper near the roll once you’ve measured both ends and determined how much paper is needed. Tape the straight end to the center of the box. Then fold the cut end under and overlap the straight end. Make sure that it’s neat but not too tight because you don’t want to rip the paper—next, tape down the folded end over the straight end.

Step #3: Fold the top end of the wrapping paper

Cut the extra wrapping paper on both around 10 inches from the box. Focus on one end of the gift at a time. Start with the split end first and fold it down over the edge of the box. Make a nice crease at the top. Tape it down to the box.

Step #4: Make triangle folds

Now that you have the top crease made, take one side and fold it over to the other side of your box to create a triangle. Tape it down. Repeat this for the other side, forming a nice crisscross design on one side of the box.

Step #5: Fold the triangle flap

After creating your crisscross formation, take the final piece and fold it neatly upwards. If you find yourself with an extra piece on the side of your triangle, you can cut it alongside the triangle or fold and tuck it in front so that it’s not visible. Finally, tape it down.

Repeat steps 3-5 for the other side of the gift wrap, and you have officially become a wrapper.

Step #6: Add a bow or ribbon

The last step is optional and can give your gift that extra decorative boost. You can take a plastic bow and stick it on the top.

For a ribbon, take your favorite and wrap it around the short side of the box. Twist it, flip the box over and wrap it around the long side. Place a stick or have someone put a finger in the middle and tie a nice, neat bow. And there you have it, a complete wrapped gift with a ribbon.

Odd, shaped gift wrapping

Odd, shaped gifts are a bit more challenging to wrap but possible. Repeat Steps 1-5. Instead of creating triangles, neatly roll the ends under and tape down. It depends on the shape of the gift.

And there you have it, some simple steps wrapping your Christmas gifts. It doesn’t have to be perfect the first few times. Like with everything, being able to wrap takes practice. Before you know it, you’ll be wrapping your gifts every year and saving money on a gift-wrapping service.

I hope this helped!
