When I started officially blogging 4 months ago, I never expected to be recognized for my blogging. Let alone, be nominated for an award. This time I am nominated for The Blogger Recognition Award. And I am so thankful for being acknowledged for the work I’ve put out.

Thank you so much to Anissa of Learning, Expressing, & Being Yourself. She is a wonderful writer and blogger who blogs about her own personal stories, thoughts, and ideas on everyday topics. She opens up her world to her readers while providing a welcoming environment.

I highly recommend checking out her blog and give her a follow @TheQuietGirl on Twitter.

So why did I start my blog

I started my blog in January 2020. and I remember learning some stuff about blogging and wanted to have a place to talk about everyday situations. I had no niche, no real plan of what I wanted my blog to be. All I knew was that I wanted to have a place to write about life.

blog block

I really wanted to write about perspectives in a positive environment. A place where I would come up with topics that others weren’t talking about. But I started to notice that when people would ask me what my blog was about, I couldn’t give a confident answer. And I was all over the place.

The first rendition of The Silent Torch lasted for 5 months in that format before I researched further and came up with the new site. Now running for 4 months, I’ve put more work into it and have a niche to focus on, Mental health awareness & Self-care.

I wanted a place where readers could read information about mental health but also get a personal perspective from someone who lives with mental health issues. I wanted to bring awareness as well as spread positive thoughts and self-care tips. Be an advocate for those out there who feel they’re alone and give them a different perspective.

It is forever a work in progress as I continue to learn, add to it, and grow it. But the objective will always remain the same. I am so appreciative that people are enjoying what I’ve done so far. And I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for my blog.

Two pieces of advice for new bloggers

So here’s my two pieces of advice. I hope it’s helpful.

1.     Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there.

For sure, this resonated with me big time in the beginning. I remember the first post I ever published was filled with anxiety and fear. And I was so nervous because I didn’t know if what I wrote would be read by anyone.

I can tell you that once you hit that button, you’ll get used to hitting publish over and over again. Whether it’s a social media post, making your own website live or your first blog post, don’t be afraid to put yourself out there.

make it happen

And if you need a moment, then there’s nothing wrong with that. Someone once told me that you just gotta do it. And then, do it again, and again, and again. It’s all about your work. You’ll have your hits and misses but the important part is that you put yourself out there and tried.

2.     Prepare yourself for blogging.

Now, I’d be lying if I said this was a breeze. Blogging takes a lot of work and a lot of time but it’s not impossible to do. Each week I research, write a post, search for stock photos, set up my website for a new post, create pins, Instagram posts, Twitter posts, and read about blogging. That is my task every week.

However, once you create your own task and schedule, these things become second nature. It definitely makes blogging a little easier for me. So before you start fully blogging, my advice would be to take some time and make a plan.

Create what your niche is going to be. Having a niche has made it easier for me to stay focus on what I want to write about. Of course, you can always change your niche or add on to it. Also, be consistent with your content once you’ve found your niche. This is a great way to grow your blog. Maybe decide to pump out a post every week just to keep your blog content out there.

And finally, create a blogging schedule. If you’re like me with a 9 to 5, maybe you can only blog on the weekends. Or if you’re part-time then your off days could work. Whatever your life schedule may be, sit down and plot out a blogging schedule around it.

Designate a day for research and creating an outline for your posts. Or spend a few hours creating your graphics for the month to post on your social media platforms. Having a schedule allows you to have the focus you desire. And you can also see what needs to be completed.

A great tool that I use right now is Trello. It’s free and you can set up your task so that you can see what your blogging week may look like. Once I put them into my plan, I knew what to do, and when I wanted it done. It was a lifesaver to read up on the process of blogging and learn these things.

My nominations are:

And these are my nominees for the Blogger Recognition Award. I look forward to seeing their responses and learning more about them. I hope my readers enjoy them as well and discover someone new. Congratulations to you all!

Again, thank you so much for the nomination. I truly appreciate these awards and that I am worth the acknowledgment from my fellow bloggers. We are a strong, supportive community that I’m happy to be a part of.

Until next time, this is Tammy saying keep strong, keep positive, and as you can see, NOTHING’s impossible!!!

  1. Congratulations on winning the award, Tammy! You have a great blog here, so it was definitely well deserved. I love your blogging tips, too. Finding a niche can be hard, but when you’ve found it, it gets easier. And I’ve been trying some niche posts and columns on my more personal blog, too; it’s easier for me to handle and I think readers like it better, too.
    Keep blogging!

    1. Thank you so much Mama Luana. I appreciate those kind words. And I complete agree about finding your niche and how once you find it, it gets easier. And it also opens the door to other ones as well which is where I’m at right now. Thank you again for reading my blog and I’ll be checking yours out as well 🙂
