It’s funny how at the beginning of this year, I had just learned about this award. I was reading someone’s post on Twitter because they had just received it. And I had one day hoped that my blog would be good enough to be recognized like that.

Well, here I am today, nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award. There really are no words to describe when you are recognized by others for your work. I am grateful and thankful for this. And can’t believe that I was recognized not to mention allowed to recognize others.

So thank you so much for seeing the hard work that I put into my content every week.

Who nominated me?

The person who nominated me is an amazing blogger. She blogs about mental health topics, putting awareness out to all through unique topics. Since the moment we connected on social media, she’s been supportive of not only my content but other bloggers as well.

Rebekah Charles goes above and beyond for the content that she writes about. And what’s great about her blog is that it makes you think, it makes a connection with the reader.

It is a pleasure to be a part of a community that has her involved. She is on a crusade to put awareness out to the world and spreading positivity along the way. I highly recommend you check out her blog, The Wellness Haven.

Here are Rebekah’s questions for me to answer

These are all great questions. Here’s my responses.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

I never really thought about it. I’ve always thought I’d live in New York City forever. But I would love to live in a place like Greece or Italy. To me, they’re two of the most beautiful places that show the past. I’m a sucker for nostalgia so I feel I’d fit right in.

What is one thing you wish you knew as a child about adulthood?

I wish I’d known as a child how difficult it was going to be. Between paying bills, working, and trying to stay alive, it’s a lot of responsibilities that as a child you don’t see. However, it does have its good moments. I’m able to stay out later. Don’t have to answer to anyone. And I have my own place to relax.

What is your favorite holiday, and why?

My favorite holiday is Halloween. While most people I know hate the holiday, I love it. it’s the one time of the year that it’s okay to dress up as whatever you want. I just love seeing the different costumes and the creativity some people have. My sister is notorious for creating some awesome costumes.

What is your view on mental health therapy?

I am a strong advocate for mental health therapy. I attended therapy for my depression for 6 years and now currently back in therapy. While it may not work for everyone, I’m a strong believer in at least giving it a try. And there are so many types of therapy that can help. I feel that those who attend can benefit greatly from it.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?

The best piece of advice I’ve received would have to be from my mother. She told me so many things that still resonate with me. But the one that sticks with me always is “Treat people the way you would want them to treat you.”

Every time I interact with someone, I think of that saying. And although I can’t control the outcome, I’m always okay with the way I treat someone because I know that I tried. Sometimes I wish everyone would take that advice.

What is something that instantly cheers you up/make you feel happy?

Well, music always instantly cheers me up. Especially upbeat music. But lately, it’s those people around me that I’ve met and known over the past 2 years who always puts an instant smile on my face. Whether it’s a private chat, message left on my social media, or through Twitch streams, they can instantly cheer me up on my bad days. I love it.

If you had to choose one superpower, what would it be?

One superpower I would love to have would have to be invisibility. I’m an observant person by nature so this superpower would be the icing on the cake lol. I wouldn’t do anything mean or naughty but it would be nice to go into secret places without getting spotted. Of course, I would want my clothes to be on when I transform back and forth lol.

What is one of your fears?

I would have to say my reverse fear of heights. For those that don’t know, it’s the fear of heights but in reverse. So I experience the same symptoms looking up at extremely tall things. It’s the one fear that manages to paralyze me from doing a lot of things I dream of doing. So no mountains, extremely tall trees, or skyscrapers. Fun fact: I live in New York City so I tend to avoid the taller buildings or look down at the ground if I have to walk by one.

What do you enjoy most about blogging?

As crazy as it may sound, I love the planning of each post. When I first started blogging, I would come up with a topic then start writing. But now that I’m a little seasoned, my process is completely different. After reading about the process of blogging, I now come up with a few topics each week. Then I pick the stronger one, research, and write an outline.

Nothing’s better than getting that “ah-ha” moment when I get what I feel will be good to write. I get excited every time. And then when it’s completed and ready to post, I’m even more excited for others to read it.

What do you least enjoy about blogging?

Right now, I’d have to say that I enjoy looking for photos to go with my blogs and social media content the least. And that’s only because I haven’t built a big enough photo library. I always feel as those the pictures are all wrong and it is very time-consuming to search. Especially if you’re on a schedule. But when it’s all over, I’m always pleased.

Word of advice: build a photo library on Google Drive or a personal folder. It will cut time searching.

What is your favorite food/snack (Popcorn gives me life!)

Everyone that knows me, knows that my favorite food has to be pizza. And not just any pizza. New York-style, large slices of pizza with pepperoni. I am a glutton for pizza lol. Every Friday has been pizza Fridays for my family and me since I was a little girl. And I continue to get it on that day.

Meatballs are also my favorite food. The two of these are my weakness when it comes to dining out.

Here are my questions for my nominees:

  1. What is one childhood memory you would love to relive?
  2. What makes you laugh the most?
  3. If you could meet any famous person, living, or dead, who would it be and why?
  4. What is your favorite genre of music/movie? And why?
  5. Who do you go out of your way to be nice to?
  6. If they made a movie about your life, which actor/actress would play you?
  7. What is one food you feel you just can’t live without?
  8. If someone had to describe you in three words, what do you think those three words would be?
  9. How did you get into the world of blogging? What made you start?
  10. Where do you see yourself and your blog in five years?
  11. If you could change one thing about humankind, what would it be and why?

  1. Hi Tammy. Congratulations! I love this award posts – it’s interesting to learn more about fellow bloggers. Interesting to read about your reverse fear of heights. I’m not comfortable with heights and I can feel uncomfortable just watching TV when the camera looks down! Do you get any feeling like that?

    1. Thank you Richie for reading my post. I believe I may write about reverse fear of heights in the future. I do get a mild feeling of discomfort when I see cameras following rollercoasters or point of view skydiving videos. I sometimes have to turn it off or look away. It’s the weirdest thing.
