Many of us still keep up the tradition of getting into the Christmas holiday after Thanksgiving. While the thought of gift shopping can be a pain in the backside, the feeling of preparing your house could be a true stress reliever.

10 ways to spread the Christmas spirit throughout your home

So, if you’re still not feeling in the mood, here are some things that can bring your home into the holiday.

Go Christmas tree shopping

It is the holiday staple and kicks off everything festive in your home. Whether real or fake, shopping for a tree is a beautiful opportunity for the entire family to be together while deciding on their new holiday family guest.

Picking out the right tree sets the tone for how your home may look. The choices are endless: big or small, full or semi-full, white or pink. And still, all of those choices can make you feel like a kid in a candy store.

Once the centerpiece has been chosen and put up, it’s time to decorate. Go all out and decorate with wreaths, sparkly garland, stockings, festive table settings, and more. Turn your home into that Christmas oasis you envisioned.

Christmas-themed decorations always set the mood for the holidays. Also, placing a Santa, his sleigh, reindeer, and more on the outside is a bonus to see when coming home.

Bake holiday treats or place candy canes around

The smell of baked sugar cookies throughout the home lets you know that Christmas is on the way. Baked treats such as cookies or bars are an excellent way to put your home in the spirit, and the smells alone can trigger past holiday moments.

If you’re not a baker, then no worries. Holiday candies sprinkled throughout the home will do the trick as well. I remember my mom having several candy dishes placed around the apartment with M&M’s, Kisses, and more. Also, candy canes are suitable for hanging around on garlands laced around the house.

Place Christmas themed scented candles throughout the house

During this time of year, Bath & Bodyworks ends up becoming our best friend. Just walking into one of their stores and smelling all the festive scents can put you in the holiday mood. What’s good about this store is that they always have multiple deals.

Grab “Tis the Season,” “Sugared Snickerdoodle,” and “Flannel” candles and place them throughout. Or your favorite holiday candle from your favorite store and the scent alone will bring you right into the Christmas spirit.

Listen to Christmas music

As annoying as it may be in every store, the right Christmas music could be just the thing to get your home and you into the Christmas spirit. It could be jolly and boastful or subtle and soothing, and playing it at a low level sets the perfect mood to get into the holiday spirit.

So, create a playlist of some of your favorites and play them off and on leading up to Christmas.

Dress in Christmas themed colors

No, you don’t need to dress like Santa or his elves for this. But sometimes, dressing in festive pajamas or lounging clothes can give you that warm feeling of the holidays. Grab your favorite flannel pants and long sleeve decorative shirt after a long day of work and relax.

Festive colors such as reds, greens, and golds matched with a neutral beige or cream can bring out a feeling of joy within your home. And encourage other household members.

Elf on the shelf and advent calendars

These are always fun because it’s everyday activity that keeps your mind in the Christmas spirit. As a kid, I never knew an elf on a shelf was a thing, and I always thought it was an elf that sat in my tree. Little did I know this little elf had some tricks up his sleeve.

Staging him in various places throughout the home each day is not only a fun little game with you and your family but may bring a smile each time you find him.

Advent calendars are another way to add to the festive atmosphere and include others. These calendars are filled with surprises for each day, and they will roll you into the Christmas spirit.

Ask for help

The holidays are for gathering. And sometimes, the more, the merrier. So why not ask others for help with decorating or baking. Even if you genuinely don’t need the help, having someone around to reminisce or teach a holiday tradition makes for good company. And what better way to get into the Christmas spirit than reminiscing about the holiday’s past together.

Watch your favorite holiday movies

What always puts me in the Christmas spirit is watching Christmas movies that I enjoyed from my childhood. Gather the family on different nights and have a holiday movie night to watch your favorites. Each person can pick a movie each time.

Or if you live alone, invite some friends over for a movie night. Hell, you could even cozy up on the couch with some Christmas treats and watch a few on your own.

Christmas themed self-care products

Sometimes it’s not just about showing a festive look to ring in the Christmas spirit, and sometimes it may take a little self-care to get you in the mood. Lotions, facial creams, bath gels, and more themed around the holiday can have you smelling like Christmas and feeling great after those stressful days.

And when it’s all said and done, grab yourself a mug of hot cocoa or eggnog, sit back and enjoy it all.

  1. watching christmas movies and decorating the tree and wrapping gifts and baking holiday things are my favorite ways to spread the christmas spirit. I would also add singing holiday tunes all day long as well 😉
